A man was shot early Friday morning inside an East Vancouver hotel following what appears to a targeted shooting.

Vancouver Police say the gunfire erupted around 2:30 a.m. outside the Cassandra Hotel at 3075 Kingsway.

The man who is believed to be in his 20's was taken to hospital with gunshot wounds to his thumb and forearm.

Police say someone fired several shots through a window while six people were partying in a second floor suite.

Emergency Response Team officers raided a room in the small hotel and took the other five people -- all in their 20's -- into custody.

Several shell casings were found in the lane behind the hotel but the shooter has not been located.

At this point police can't say if gangs are involved.
