The daughters of a homeless man, who was shot and killed by Vancouver police last week, will be making a statement Thursday.

Vancouver police now say Michael Van Hubbard was not the thief they were looking for. But when they approached him, he pulled out a box cutter and an officer shot him.

The impact of Friday's shooting is being felt in the homeless community. Many homeless people say they've been unfairly targeted by officers.

"I don't know any other police force that has such a bad name as this police force,'' said TJ, who sells flowers on the streets of Vancouver.

"Just because a person is homeless doesn't mean they're a criminal,'' said former homeless man Dan DeCoste. "It just means they're homeless,'' he said.

Abbotsford police are investigating the officer's conduct on the day of the shooting.
