Homicide investigators say a young man and woman found dead days apart in Abbotsford were a couple, and heavily entrenched in organized crime.

On Thursday, Abbotsford Police found human remains inside a burned out car in a berry field after being called about a suspicious vehicle on Gladwin Road.

Aided by dental records and victim interviews, police have identified the victim as Mission/Abbotsford resident Bobby Leroy Digeorgio, 24.

During their probe into his death, police went to a home in the 31300-block of McConachie Place late Sunday night. It was there they found the body of Digeorgio's girlfriend in the basement.

She has been identified as 23-year-old Jessica Amber Illes.

B.C. Integrated Homicide Team spokesperson Dale Carr confirms the killings are linked and are both considered targeted hits.

"Illes and Digeorgio were last seen together and were in a relationship," he said in a statement.

Carr says both murders are linked to drugs and organized crime.

Digeorgio and Illes each faced numberous weapons and assault charges in Mission, Abbotsford, and Surrey dating back to 2007.

On Monday, Abbotsford Police Const. Ian MacDonald hinted at the targeted nature of Illes' murder, saying the community shouldn't be worried.

"It's tragic for someone so young, but we want the average citizen to know that they're not in any danger," he said.

"I think what we're dealing with there, right or wrong, is someone that put themselves in harms way."
