A devastating Canucks loss sent Vancouver fans home early from downtown on Monday night, and police say they were left with little to do.
Police estimate that about 35,000 people ventured into the downtown core to watch the Canucks lose 8-1 to the Boston Bruins in Game 3 of the Stanley Cup Final.
But unlike after the home team's previous two victories, disappointed fans didn't linger to celebrate. Just minutes after the final whistle blew to end the game, the Georgia Street fan zone was virtually empty, save for the leftover trash blowing in the wind.
"The score kind of says it all. There were a lot of disappointed people. I even saw a few kids crying as their parents held their hands tonight," Vancouver Police Const. Lindsey Houghton told CTV News.
Bad news for the team was good news for neighbours hoping for a little peace and quiet.
Police reported pouring out just 151 open liquor containers, down from 891 after Saturday's massive party. Three people were arrested for breaching the peace and public intoxication, making up just a small fraction of the weekend's 46 arrests.
