Dustin Sylvester and Brock Montgomery scored two goals apiece as the Kootenay Ice beat the Vancouver Giants 6-2 in WHL action Wednesday night.
Sylvester, the current WHL player of the week, also had an assist and now has nine points in his past four games.
Kevin King and Brendan Hurley also scored as Kootenay (15-13-2) posted its fourth straight victory. All of the wins have come on the road.
James Henry and Lance Bouma replied for the Giants (18-9-1-2) as their win streak ended at three games before a crowd of 5,568 at the Pacific Coliseum. The Giants now have two more losses at home than on the road.
Kootenay led 2-1 after the first and 4-1 after the second as both clubs recorded 26 shots. The Ice went 2-for-8 on the power play while the Giants scored once with a two man-advantage.
A pair of bad Vancouver giveaways enabled King, during a power play, and Sylvester to score on two of only three Kootenay shots in the first 8 1/2 minutes of the game. Steele Boomer assisted on both tallies after forcing turnovers.
But Henry countered with a short-handed goal on a rush along left wing at 13:07 of the first period. The goal left Kootenay with a 2-1 lead after 20 minutes.
Sylvester's second goal of the game, which put the Ice ahead 3-1 at 12:19 of the second, proved to be the winner. Brayden McNabb's point shot hit Vancouver defenceman Nolan Toigo and stopped beneath his feet, but he could not see it. Giants goaltender Jamie Tucker, having trouble locating the puck, slid across his crease in desperation, but Sylvester put the puck in the opposite corner of the net.
Montgomery converted his own rebound on a power play at 16:41 of the middle frame to give Kootenay a 4-1 lead. The goal came after Vancouver's Dillon Scholten took an extra roughing penalty in a skirmish with Max Reinhart.
Early in the third period, Hurley put in Reinhart's pass from behind the net, giving Kootenay a commanding 5-1 advantage. Bouma scored on a power play about two minutes later later, but the Giants could not get any closer before Montgomery's second goal of the night rounded out the scoring with 12 seconds left.
Elsewhere, in the WHL B.C. Division, the Calgary Hitmen edged the Prince George Cougars 6-5, the Kelowna Rockets beat the Everett Silvertips 6-2 and the Kamloops Blazers shutout the Edmonton Oil Kings 5-0.
