Henry scores twice as Giants beat Rebels 4-1
VANCOUVER - James Henry scored two goals as the Vancouver Giants beat the Red Deer Rebels 4-1 in WHL action Friday night.
Brendan Gallagher and J.T. Barnett also scored for the Giants (15-6-1-2) as they increased their winning streak to three games before a crowd of 9,836 at the Pacific Coliseum.
Former Giant Andrej Kudrna, who began the season with Vancouver, replied for the Rebels (10-12-0-0) as they suffered their second straight loss.
Vancouver outshot Red Deer 43-26. The Giants went 2-for-6 on the power play while the Rebels were 1-for-8.
The score was tied 1-1 after the first and the Giants led 3-1 after 40 minutes.
In a rare occurrence, Vancouver goaltender Jamie Tucker gave the Rebels a 5-on-3 power play in the first period as he was penalized twice for delay of game 27 seconds apart. First, he was called for smothering the puck as Red Deer's Landon Ferraro, who wears No. 13, stood on his doorstep. Then Tucker was found guilty of shooting the puck over the glass.
Raiders hammer Cougars 9-2
PRINCE ALBERT, Sask. - Dustin Cameron scored a hat trick as the Prince Albert Raiders rocked the Prince George Cougars 9-2 in Western Hockey League action Friday night.
Andrew Herle and Craig McCallum both scored twice for Prince Albert (11-10-2), while Justin Maylan and Mark McNeill had singles.
James Dobrowolski and Jaroslav Vlach both found the back of the net for the Cougars (3-16-2).
Parker's hat trick gives Seattle 7-2 win over Kamloops Blazers
KAMLOOPS, B.C. - Jonathan Parker's hat trick led the Seattle Thunderbirds to a 7-2 victory over the Kamloops Blazers Friday night in the Western Hockey League.
Prab Rai scored twice, while Charles Wells and Jeremy Schappert also scored for Seattle (6-12-4). Luke Lockhart had three assists.
Dylan Willick and Colin Smith replied for the Blazers (10-11-2).
Seattle goaltender Calvin Pickard stopped 22 shots, while Jon Groenheyde of the Blazers turned aside 21.
Silvertips double up Rockets 4-2
EVERETT, Wash. - Shane Harper and Tyler Maxwell each scored two goals, leading the Everett Silvertips to a 4-2 victory over the Kelowna Rockets on Friday night in WHL action.
Everett took a 3-0 lead after two periods, then had to overcome penalty trouble to hold on in the third.
Thomas Heemskerk had a solid game in net for Everett (12-5-1), making 37 saves.
Stephan Novotny and Tyson Barrie scored for Kelowna (11-9-1).
Adam Brown made 24 saves in net for the Rockets.
