A 25-year-old former Tsawwassen, B.C. resident who won the Miss Earth crown in 2008 was stabbed early Thursday morning in the Philippines.

Karla Paula Henry was stabbed in the back by a drunken man at the condominium where she was staying in Mandaluyong City, according to local media reports.

Police told the Manila Standard that the attacker used a broken beer bottle to stab the beauty queen, but the motive is unknown. A 29-year-old suspect was arrested.

Henry, who was born in the Philippines, was taken to hospital, treated and released.

She lived in B.C. for 10 years before moving back to become the first Philippine contestant to win the Miss Earth pageant.
