A 29-year-old man has been charged in connection with the death of a Surrey man Monday night.

Lester Olivia Buezo Oseguera has been charged with one count of possession of a loaded restricted firearm. He is scheduled to appear in court Friday afternoon.

An RCMP statement said investigators can "confidently say that they are investigating only one suspect in this matter." However, it also says the investigation is ongoing and police anticipate further charges related to the incident.

Oseguera was arrested Monday after the body of Jose Hector Luna Morales, from El Salvador, was found in a Whalley house in the 13800-block of 112th Avenue in the Bolivar Heights neighbourhood.

Police found Morales' body after following up on complaints from a woman who said she'd heard shots coming from the house. The two officers who arrived at the scene were confronted by an armed man in the front yard who fired a single gun shot before fleeing. He was tracked down by a police dog several blocks away.

Morales' body was identified by a woman named Jacqueline Luna, who said she was his sister. She said Morales was in Canada legally on a work visa for the last two years.
