Mounties in Surrey, B.C., took three men into custody early Tuesday after an incident in which at least one shot was fired at police.

Police say they were responding to a disturbance call at a home on Hansen Road when a man ran outside and shot at officers before fleeing on foot.

Insp. Steve Wade said officers did not return fire at the suspect.

Police found one man dead inside the home and arrested two suspects.

A police dog was brought in to find the suspect who fired on police. He was arrested several blocks away around an hour later with the help of the RCMP Emergency Response Team.

A weapon was recovered in the area.

The 29-year-old of no fixed address suffered minor injuries during the arrest. He was transported to hospital for treatment and then released into police custody.

The other two suspects were held for questioning.

Wade said investigators believe all suspects are now in custody and says there is no danger to the public.

"Our members are trained never to take anything too lightly, and luckily in this case they didn't," he said.

The victim's identity and the cause of death have not been released.

The B.C. Integrated Homicide Investigation Team has taken over the case.

Investigators say early indications suggest the 29-year-old suspect and victim knew each other.
