Police have identified the victim of an early Wednesday morning shooting in Abbotsford as 22-year-old Mandy Astin Johnson.

Johnson, a Langley resident, was killed around 3 a.m. as she sat in a car near the intersection of Poplar Avenue and Townline Road.

Nearby residents told police they heard several gunshots. A man who was sitting in the car with Johnson was not injured in the shooting.

Investigators believe the shooting was targeted, but have not yet determined whether Johnson was the intended target of the hit.

Johnson was known to police, and RCMP believe she was involved in the drug trade.

"This is yet another young person that has been murdered in the Lower Mainland by what seems like her involvement with the drug trade," Cpl. Dale Carr of the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team said in a release.

"The community needs to be outraged by this and young people have to begin to realize that this lifestyle is extremely dangerous often leading to death. Certainly we can agree that nobody deserves this fate."

Investigators are asking anyone with information about the murder to call police.
