One person is dead but a second sitting only metres away was miraculously spared after an early morning shooting in Abbotsford, B.C.

Abbotsford Police told CTV News shots were fired around 3 a.m. as two people sat in a car parked in the northwest area of the city.

The unnamed victim died at the scene. Another person was found unharmed.

A resident told police they heard several shots followed by a vehicle speeding away.

The case has been handed over to the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team, who are expected to release more information tomorrow.

The identity of the victim is not known. Police haven't said if they believe the shooting was targeted or if it was linked to drugs or organized crime.
