The suspect in an Abbotsford shooting is still at large after emergency crews descended on an Abbotsford home early Saturday morning.

Abbotsford Police Department were called to the 2100 block of Beaver Street at 3 a.m. Police said they had a reason to believe the suspect was a basement suite of a home on that street. ERT flashbangs were set off at around 8 a.m. waking up neighbours in the area.

Abbotsford RCMP and the emergency responses team were trying to make contact with the occupants of the home Saturday afternoon using a telephone and speakers. Ambulance and fire crews were also on standby at the scene. Police confirmed they secured the home and the suspect was still at large Saturday evening.

Neighbour Dave Pleasants said the neighbourhood is not a quiet area.

"If I'm up late at night I hear people yelling down the street and fights going on down the streets," he told CTV News.

The shooting victim is now in stable condition after undergoing surgery for at least one gunshot wound.

The male victim’s name has not yet been released and the investigation by the Major Crime Unit is ongoing.
