A 21-year-old man was arrested Sunday at the scene of a middle-aged woman's murder in Sooke, B.C.

Mounties were called to a home on Otter Point Road at around 3:30 p.m. and found the 53-year-old victim dead.

A young suspect who is known to police was found and taken into custody.

Cpl. Annie Linteau confirmed that the victim and suspect knew each other, but would not say how.

Police say the murder took place behind the home, which the deceased had been living in but did not own.

Few details about the murder, including the cause of death, have been released.

The deceased's identity is being withheld until her next of kin is notified.

The suspect will appear in the West Shore Provincial Court but the date has not been set.
