Mounties on Vancouver Island are investigating after a man was found dead late last night at a home in Langford, west of Victoria.

Police found the 53-year-old man in the main living area of the home on Jeanine Drive shortly before 11 p.m.

The victim is a Langford resident, but his identity is being withheld pending next of kin notification. The man was a tenant in the home. Residents living in a secondary suite were not home last night, say police.

Investigators have not said how the victim died or what injuries he sustained but confirm they are treating it as a homicide. An autopsy is expected by coming days.

A 44-year-old Langford man was arrested without incident at 7:15 a.m. Tuesday. He remains in police custody and is expected to make his first court appearance later today. He faces murder and forcible confinement charges.

The man is not previously known to police.

Cpl. Darren Lagan said members of the Vancouver Island Integrated Major Crime Unit and the RCMP Dog Service were launched after the suspect was determined "early in the investigation."

Police say they have located two women who were at the home earlier in the evening and are in the process of interviewing them. They are cooperating with police.

Lagan says the women, the suspect and the victim were all known to each other.

The crime scene is expected to remain behind police tape for several days as forensic teams sweep the home for evidence.

Anyone with information is asked to call police or Crime Stoppers.
