On Mother's Day, the father of two teenage sons who were killed in a car crash just the previous day went to visit the scene of the crash in Richmond. Flowers and other tributes from friends had already been laid on the roadside memorial where the wrecked car was.

On his hands and knees, the father sobbed and sobbed.

The two brothers, Shane and Jess Moses, died when the driver of the BMW that they were riding in early Saturday morning lost control of the car and crashed into a tree on No. 4 Road in Richmond. The brothers, ages 19 and 16, died almost instantly. The 20-year-old driver survived.

RCMP said alcohol and driver inexperience may have contributed to the crash.

On Sunday, Joanne Sargeant came to the crash site to pay her respect to the two brothers. Her daughter goes to Matthew McNair Secondary, the same high school that Shane and Jess had attended.

"Please don't drink and drive, it's the most important thing," said Sargeant. "It's so important that it goes on where…friends start telling people, ‘I'm not going in the car with you, you're drinking and driving, let's call a cab, let's call my mom.'"

Before he left, the father of the two sons pulled Sargeant into a hug as he cried.

"When he hugged me…I felt his pain and I haven't lost any of my children—thank God—but I felt it and it's bad," said Sargeant who also teared up. "Like he said, he has nothing left. No more children, gone in an instant. It's the worst."

The boys' mother is away, but she will be coming back to Vancouver soon, said Sargeant.

"That's all I can think of is the mom," she said. "How is she going to take this when she comes back?"
