One person is dead and three more are injured after a stolen car rolled down an embankment Monday morning in Sooke, B.C.

After the crash took place at around 10 a.m in the town west of Victoria, one person was pronounced dead at the scene and another was airlifted to Victoria General Hospital, the BC Ambulance Service confirms.

Witnesses say the car was speeding and veered into the path of an oncoming motorhome that barely managed to avoid a collision. They say the driver then lost control, slammed into a power pole and flipped into a ditch.

The accident occurred on a stretch of West Coast Road between Grant Road West and Kemp Lake Road.

Sooke RCMP say the highway could be closed for up to six hours and vehicles are asked to use Otter Point Road as a detour.
