Whalley 15, Trail 4

Whalley brought out the big sluggers for Day 6 of the B.C. Little League Championships, defeating Trail 15-4 Thursday afternoon at Justin Morneau Field.

Pitcher Travis LeClair, 13, was the superstar of the ball game, hitting a highlight reel Grand Slam for Whalley.

The Surrey native, who won provincials as a 10-year-old, says B.C. baseball hero Justin Morneau is his favourite player.

It appears LeClair took some lessons out of Morneau's playbook with his hard-hitting game.

Whalley is vying for that coveted first place finish in round robin play. The team holds a 4-1 record and sits  second just behind an undefeated Little Mountain squad.

Trail tried to come back in the fifth inning but was unable to stir up their offense. After Whalley's 15th run the game was cut short, as per Mercy Rule etiquette.

In other Day 6 action, Layritz and Hastings duke it out at 3 p.m. at Justin Morneau Field, while New West and Little Mountain concludes the day's activities with a 6 p.m. evening matchup.

Hastings 11, Layritz 5

Hastings collected their fourth win of the tournament, beating Layritz 11-5 Thursday afternoon at Justin Morneau Field.

Hastings sits third in the standings with four wins and two losses. Layritz is placed in fifth with two wins and three losses after Thursday's match.

Pitcher Ryan Wong had a strong game on the mound for Hastings only allowing three hits on 12 batters. It was his first game back after being on the injured list.

Layritz had four hits and four errors during the game, while Hastings finished with 12 hits and four errors.

Little Mountain 13, New Westminster 2

Little Mountain remains undefeated with a 5-0 record at the B.C. Little League Championship. The District One team beat New Westminster 13-2 in Day 6's final game.

The game was highlighted by Day 6's second Grand Slam by Little Mountain's pitcher and short stop, Lucas Soper.

The 12-year-old Vancouver native has played baseball for eight years, modeling his baseball play after Major Leaguer Francisco Rodriguez who plays for the New York Mets.

Little Mountain had 13 hits and one error in the game, while New Westminster had four hits and six errors.

With championship weekend edging closer, Little Mountain will look to stay on top of the standings heading into the playoff rounds.

Both teams are in action again tomorrow. Little Mountain will look to make it a perfect six in round robin play against Trail and New Westminster will try for their second win of the tournament against West Vancouver.
