A Vernon man has been arrested in connection to what police say is the B.C. Interior town's first homicide of the year.

RCMP spokesman Gordon Molendyk told ctvbc.ca that the possible murder was reported by family members of the 31-year-old suspect around 5 p.m. on Thursday.

Police discovered the body of the victim at the suspect's apartment in the 2900-block of 33rd Avenue.

Molendyk said police are not releasing the victim's name, age or gender. However, investigators believe that the suspect and victim were known to each other.

The suspect is in police custody and expected to appear in court on Friday. Molendyk said he anticipates that police will recommend homicide charges.
