Mounties are investigating a non-fatal shooting in Maple Ridge, B.C., which they were alerted to after the victim checked himself into the hospital.

Investigators say the man arrived at an area hospital at around 1 p.m. Thursday suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.

"Exactly how he got to the hospital is not clear, but it was not by ambulance," RCMP spokesman Dan Herbranson said.

The identity of the victim has not been released, nor have the location or severity of his injuries.

"I can tell you he is conscious, and his wounds are being treated," said Herbranson.

Police located what they believe is the scene of the shooting, and searched the area with the Air Two helicopter, a dog team and forensic investigators on Thursday afternoon.

More details are expected to be released on Friday morning.
