Vancouver police have recommended another 63 charges against 20 people they believe participated in the widespread violence and looting of last year's Stanley Cup riot.

Insp. Les Yeo of the Integrated Riot Investigation Team announced the charge recommendations Tuesday, bringing the total number of charges recommended so far to 278 counts against 100 rioters.

The latest round of charge recommendations include a 15-year-old Surrey boy, who is accused of committing a "crime spree" that began when he allegedly flipped over a parked car and then stole property from its trunk. Police say he went on to push over a portable toilet and then bash a police car with a metal fence connector.

A 45-year-old Vancouver man with an extensive criminal record is accused of trying to smash in the windows of a bank with his hockey stick, punching several strangers in the head and then helping to flip over a parked car.

Of the 100 suspects that police have recommended charges against so far, 82 per cent are residents of cities other than Vancouver, with the largest proportion -- 26 suspects -- hailing from Surrey. The average age of the suspects is 21, while the youngest is a 15-year-old boy and the oldest is a 52-year-old man. Eighty-five of the suspects are male.

Police have said that as many as 700 people could ultimately face charges in connection with the June 15, 2011 riot, and that the investigation could take up to two years to complete.

To date, Crown prosecutors have approved 78 charges against 30 alleged rioters, all of whom have either turned themselves in or been arrested.
