Vancouver police are asking the public for information after a 28-year-old man was believed to be shot on Monday night near McLean Park in East Vancouver.

Officers arrived to the scene after receiving several calls around 10 p.m. from people who had heard shots fired in the area of the 600-block of Heatley Street. They did not find anyone there, but say officers discovered evidence that shots were fired.

A Vancouver man suffering from a bullet wound in his stomach later admitted himself to a local hospital shortly before 11:00 p.m.

His injuries were not life threatening, and he left the hospital soon after being stitched up, Const. Lindsey Houghton told ctvbc.ca.

Police believe the man is directly connected to the incident near McLean Park, but he was not co-operative to their investigation.

He has a previous criminal record and the attack was likely targeted, Houghton said.

Officers may return to the area Tuesday to search for more clues as there are presently no suspects.
