Online tributes are pouring in for a 29-year-old Castlegar, B.C., man considered to be one of the world's top skateboarders.

Nelson City Police Inspector Hanry Paivarinta confirms the body of Joshua Evin was pulled out of the Kootenay Canal in southeastern B.C., late Monday afternoon.

Evin and a 37-year-old passenger were hurled into the fast-moving water early Sunday morning when Evin missed a sharp curve as he drove his newly-purchased motorcycle along the road hugging the canal.

Paivarinta says speed appears to be a factor.

He says the passenger, formerly from Nelson but now living in Vancouver, was lucky to scramble out of the treacherous water.

Evin was a sponsored, professional skateboarder who also owned the Black Russian skateboard shop in Castlegar.
