The BC Lions announced the signing of their second-round draft pick Shawn Gore Sunday afternoon.

"I'm very excited to be joining the Lions," said Gore before boarding a flight to Vancouver. "I have some close friends on the club and I met a lot of the guys after the game in Montreal. I can't wait to get there, compete, contribute and start my CFL career."

The Lions passed on the wide receiver in the first-round of May's CFL Draft because Gore was already in talks to play with the Green Bay Packers of the NFL.

When Gore was still available in the second-round Lions general manager Wally Buono could not pass up the Bishop's product and selected him 10th overall.

The very next day Gore signed a three-year contract with the Packers after beating out a couple dozen NCAA players.

The 23-year-old Toronto-native was unable to impress enough to stick with the Packers heading into the start of their regular season and was released last weekend.

Gore is not expected to turn around what has been a difficult season for the BC Lions who are currently in last place in the CFL with a record of 2-7. But he does provide hope for the future and that is something the Lions are not willing to pass up.

Gore was Bishop's Male Athlete of the Year in 2009 and led the Gaiters with 32 catches for 496 yards and five touchdowns during the regular season.

Over his career, Gore notched 1172 receiving yards on 72 catches in 29 regular-season games and finished his time at Bishop's on a 21-game pass catching streak.
