'Incredible honour': Mick Jagger dines at famous Vancouver restaurant
A rock 'n' roll legend made an appearance at a popular Vancouver restaurant over the weekend.
On Saturday, Mick Jagger himself dined at Vij’s.
"It was a great honour," chef and owner Vikram Vij told CTV News Channel on Monday.
"I’ve been such a big fan of Mick Jagger and the Rolling Stones, and the fact that he chose to have Indian food in Vancouver where there’s great sushi and great other restaurants and chefs available… (it's) truly a humbling honour."
The icon was in town after the Rolling Stones performed at BC Place on Friday. It was the Stones first show in Vancouver in almost two decades, having last rocked at BC Place in 2006.
Vij said he and the front man had a great conversation, which included the topics of cricket and travels in India.
"He was absolutely very friendly and loving," Vij said.
For those wondering what Jagger ate, Vij said he was "really impressed" with the star's "healthy appetite." The nearly-81-year-old feasted on appetizers, a butter chicken—that Vij went into the kitchen and made personally for him—naan, rice, a desert, and beer.
The chef added that Jagger asked about all the ingredients in the meal.
"I was totally impressed, and I thank him from the bottom of my heart that he loved our food so much," he said.
As for the other diners in the restaurant, not a single person got up to disturb the guest of honour.
"Everybody’s jaws just dropped, and then they went back to eating," Vij said, adding that many of the patrons were at the Rolling Stones concert the night before.
Before leaving, Jagger got photos with Vij and all the restaurant staff.
"It was an iconic moment for us at Vij’s restaurant," said the owner.
The Cambie Street restaurant is no stranger to high-profile guests. In February, Prince Harry and Meghan made a surprise visit at Vij’s. B.C. singer Michael Buble and his wife Luisana Lopilato also dined at the restaurant that night.
