Fire officials expect the 600-hectare wildfire blazing in B.C.'s Yalakom Valley to grow on Friday because of high temperatures and variable winds.

Eighty fire fighters are working to contain the fire discovered on Wednesday on Jade Mine Road, 30 kilometres northwest of Lillooet.

Leslie Lloyd of the Squamish-Lillooet Regional District told ctvbc.ca that approximately 20 homes are under evacuation alert.

According to the Ministry of Forests and Range, the wildfire is not at all contained and its cause is under investigation.

A campfire ban began on Friday for parts of coastal B.C. in an effort to prevent wildfires caused by humans. It applies to all B.C. parks, and Crown and private lands, but does not affect areas with local governments that have forest fire prevention bylaws and are serviced by a fire department.
