Long-weekend travellers to Vancouver Island had a much easier time Sunday with light traffic.

But Monday will likely be a different story as people head home.

BC Ferries saw major delays on the route between Tsawwassen and Swartz Bay after the Spirit of Vancouver Island was pulled from service Friday due to a fire.

Swartz Bay and Departure Bay terminals are expected to be busy Monday, especially after the noon hour.

BC Ferries is encouraging travellers to try and travel earlier in the day.

They're also warning people who bought assured loading tickets that the tickets won't be honoured on the Tsawwassen-Swartz Bay route, though they will be accepted on the Tsawwassen-Duke Point and Horseshoe Bay-Departure Bay routes.
