Forecasters are expecting intense winds to batter B.C.’s South Coast this week during the region’s latest fall storm.

Environment and Climate Change Canada said some areas will experience heavy rain as the storm moves across Vancouver Island onto the Lower Mainland on Tuesday, but that “very windy conditions” will be the primary concern.

“Strong winds may down trees or cause tree limbs to break,” the agency wrote in a special weather statement. “Secure loose outdoor objects.”

Residents have also been warned to brace for potential power outages. Another storm earlier this month – during which a minor tornado formed on the Sunshine Coast – resulted in more than 230,000 BC Hydro customers losing electricity.

The Insurance Bureau of Canada said that storm resulted to more than $110 million in damage claims.

Forecasters have not provided an estimate for how fast the winds could be gusting this week, but said the most intense conditions should occur Tuesday night.
