A jury has found Raminder Singh Bhandher guilty of second degree murder in the shooting death of Tejvir Singh Bains in Surrey, B.C.
Bhandher shot and killed the 24-year-old, also known as Sunny Bains, in the condo Bains shared with his girlfriend and their young child on January 28, 2008.
Bhandher was charged with first degree murder. On Monday, a B.C. Supreme Court jury found him not guilty of that charge, but guilty of the lesser and included charge of second degree murder.
Witnesses have said they heard as many as six shots fired at Bains's townhome on the night of the killing. Bhandher was charged with the killing about one month later.
During his trial, Bhandher admitted to gunning down Bains, but argued that he did so in self-defence.
At the time of his arrest, police said Bhandher and Bains knew each other, and that Bhandher was known to police.
