A 62-year-old man in Mission, B.C., is facing an attempted murder charge after allegedly shooting his son with a crossbow on Saturday afternoon.

Mounties say they received a report at around 2 p.m. that a 36-year-old man had been shot in the arm at a home on Degraff Road.

The victim and his mother fled the home and met with a neighbour, who drove them to an area hospital. Const. Bryan Roberts said police arrived at the home shortly after and apprehended the father.

"They called him out of the residence with a bullhorn, and he was taken into custody without incident," he said.

Officers seized a crossbow and ammunition from the home, as well as a number of other firearms, Roberts said.

The victim was treated and released from hospital. The father remains in custody, and will appear in Abbotsford provincial court on Monday morning.

Police are recommending a single charge of attempted murder.
