SURREY - A man has been charged in a recent Surrey shooting that left one man dead.
Last month, 24-year-old Tejvir Singh Bains, also known as Sunny Bains, was shot to death in a condo.
Raminder Singh Bhandher of Surrey faces one count of first-degree murder in his death.
Police said the suspect is known to police.
Cpl. Dale Carr of the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team says it's too soon to say if the murder is related to a rash of other shootings across the Lower Mainland.
"Just because someone that may or may not be involved with a gang, and are accused of killing someone, it may not be gang-related,'' he said.
Carr said Bhandher and Bains were known to each other and the incident was not random.
Bhandher is reported to be the son of one of the Air India suspects, but Carr could not confirm this.
He's set to appear in provincial court on Monday.
Several days after Bains' death, a forum was held on gang violence.
The mother of a murder victim who was gunned down in a gang execution in a Surrey apartment last October is calling for a gangster website that would identify suspected gang members.
A slew of gang violence has forced police to establish an anti-gang unit made up of officers from the RCMP and several other Vancouver-area police forces.
Police have solved few of the about 100 gang-related deaths in the Vancouver area over the last few years.
