A convicted sex offender living in Westholme near Duncan, B.C., is facing new charges of possession and distribution of child pornography.

Acting on information from undercover police in Toronto, Duncan RCMP seized several computers and other electronic equipment from the 56-year-old man's home on Oct. 21.

Cpl. Kevin Day told ctvbc.ca that the man has been released from jail on strict conditions until his Jan. 11, 2011, court date.

"Police do not believe he poses an immediate threat to the community. We believe he'll abide by these conditions. We're monitoring him closely and in the meantime furthering our investigation into the matter," he said.

Day said that conditions of his release prohibit him from using any computer or computer-related devices, visiting school zones or parks and being in the presence of anyone under the age of 14 without that person's adult supervisor.

The man has previously been convicted of possession of child pornography and sexual assault.

Day said that processing evidence from electronic equipment is a lengthy process that takes a lot of expertise from the technology crime unit.

"Because of all the computer paraphernalia that was seized there's more investigation needed and in the meantime we're watching him closely," he said.
