B.C.'s newest lottery millionaires, Daniel and Kelly Schulli, are keeping the family's new fortune a secret from their kids – for now.

The Abbotsford couple learned they won a life-changing $9.7-million Lotto 6/49 prize on Monday, and they claimed the jackpot together Tuesday afternoon.

But the Schullis said only the oldest of their four children has been told of the winnings. They want the other three to find out by surprise through the news.

And what message does the couple want to impart on their unsuspecting offspring?

"Clean your rooms," Daniel said.

"You're still getting a job!" Kelly added.

Daniel found out about the win by using a ticket-checker at the Bradner General Store in Abbotsford, the same place he bought the ticket for the Sept. 17 draw.

"I was a little numb at the beginning," he told CTV News. "You know, I wasn't sure if it was real or not."

He then called Kelly to deliver the incredible news, but she was at work, and continued on with her shift.

"I was pretty sure it was a bit of a joke," she said. "I carried on with my afternoon and he kept phoning me and bothering me about it."

The nearly $10-million jackpot should make the couple much more comfortable, but they said they don't have any big plans for spending it just yet.

"The boys have been giving me a hard time about my 20-year-old pickup, so I might have to buy a new truck," Daniel said.

The probability of matching six out of six numbers in a Lotto 6/49 draw are roughly one in 14 million.
