Two Calgary residents were killed early Wednesday morning in a three-vehicle crash on the Trans-Canada Highway near the Alberta-B.C. border.

The accident happened around 2 a.m. about 25 kilometres east of Revelstoke, B.C.

According to police, an eastbound semi-truck crossed the centre and collided head-on with a westbound tractor-trailer.

The 29-year-old driver and 39-year-old passenger of the eastbound semi-truck died at the scene.

The driver of the westbound tractor-trailer was not injured.

A third vehicle was caught in the debris field, which was about 200 metres long, police said.

As of 11 a.m., police had not released the identities of the victims and the highway remained closed.
