Police are investigating the cause of a house fire that took place in Burnaby Saturday night, after video of the flames posted online appeared to show the fire burning more on the outside of the house than the inside.

“That’s why we think it’s suspicious,” Burnaby Assistant Fire Chief David Graystone told reporters at the scene. “Because the flames appeared to be on the outside of the building before it went inside the building … That’s why the RCMP investigation crew are on route and ours will also do an investigation.”

Crews were called to the house in the 2000-block of Paulus Crescent shortly after 11:30 p.m. They knocked down the fire from the outside, first, then entered the building, Graystone said.

He said there was extensive damage to the back of the building, which made it impossible for residents to remain the home overnight, but the rest of the house is intact.
