A last-minute request for evidence has forced a delay in an inquest into a fatal police shooting in Burnaby.

Lawyer Cameron Ward asked for an adjournment in order to get more information about the history of New Westminster police officer Todd Sweet.

Sweet fired at a moving SUV at it slammed into several cars on a quiet street in Burnaby. A bullet deflected and hit Tait, killing him.

Ward says the records about Sweet's alleged history of violence before the shooting are relevant to the inquest, but Sweet's lawyer disagrees, all of which will be hashed out when the inquest resumes next Monday.

In granting the adjournment, Coroner Liana Wright criticized Ward for making a last-minute application, saying it contradicted her instruction that all submissions for disclosure be made by last week.
