Mounties have tracked down a suspected thief who snapped a selfie using a stolen iPhone on Vancouver Island earlier this month.
The cellphone was inside a woman’s purse that was snatched from her car in Nanaimo on July 5. When the victim bought a new phone and started downloading her old pictures, she was surprised to find an image of an unknown man posing for a selfie.
Police shared the suspect’s picture last week, and said he was identified and located less than 48 hours later.
The 39-year-old man is facing a charge of theft under $5,000, and is scheduled to appear in Nanaimo provincial court on Aug. 8.
The stolen cell phone has not been recovered, police said.
