A 19-year-old Surrey woman left in a ditch after a hit-and-run Thursday night is in hospital in serious condition.

The woman was hit by a vehicle while walking along the 19700 block of 72nd Avenue in Langley around 10:30 p.m., on a paved stretch with no sidewalk, according to Langley RCMP.

The driver left the scene, leaving the woman at the side of the road, mounties said. A person walking by called police after hearing her moans from the ditch.

RCMP are investigating but have not been able to speak to the woman, who has serious injuries to her head and lower body.

“She’s not in a position to actually speak to investigators at this point,” said Const. Craig Van Herk.

Police are asking the driver to step forward.  Anyone with information is asked to call Langley RCMP at 604-532-3200 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
