A murder investigation has been launched after a 55-year-old Surrey man who was found beaten up and unconscious over the weekend died in hospital.

Scott Ashley McMillan was discovered unresponsive on the floor of his home in the 13800-block of 64th Avenue on Sunday.

He was rushed to hospital, where he was placed on life support in critical condition until he succumbed to his injuries Wednesday afternoon.

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team was called to lead the probe into his death, with help from the Surrey RCMP detachment.

“IHIT is in the process of identifying persons of interest and conducting interviews in order to determine what lead up to this murder and who is responsible,” Sgt. Jennifer Pound said in a statement.

McMillan had a criminal record reaching as far back as 1985 and as recently as 2011.

An autopsy has been scheduled this week to help determine his cause of death.
