A once grand, 94-year-old Tudor-style home on Vancouver's west side could get a little more help from city council tonight as area residents fight to save the heritage property.

Councillors will hear a report aimed at protecting the old mansion from demolition for at least another four months.

The property, built in the upscale Shaughnessy neighbourhood in 1922 as a show home demonstrating the benefits of electricity, was granted a heritage inspection order earlier this month.

Council is stepping up efforts to save heritage and character properties from the wrecking ball as a real estate boom has seen many of Vancouver's older homes purchased and demolished to make way for new construction.
