Mounties in West Kelowna have launched a homicide probe after the body of a missing 24-year-old was discovered.

RCMP announced the remains of Brittney Lee Irving were positively identified Tuesday. Investigators are not saying how she died.

"No charges have been laid with respect to Brittney's death and no other details of the investigation will be released at this time," Const. Steve Holmes wrote in a release issued to media.

Irving, who was arrested last month after RCMP raided a grow-operation at her home, was last seen by a family member April 6 at a Days Inn motel. She left to meet someone in the Rutland area of the city but never returned.

Her brother, Joze MacCullouch, told CTV News shortly after her disappearance his sister was addicted to prescription drugs and was scheduled to check into rehab.

"Her husband was just ecstatic that she was even making the notion to want to clean up," he said, adding Irving was "very excited" to receive treatment.

MacCullouch said his sister was at the Days Inn for one last drug deal before entering treatment.

"She thought she was going to make a little bit of money," he said.

Her Ford Explorer SUV was found abandoned the day after her disappearance.
