A middle-aged Chilliwack man was killed on impact when a train hit him early Wednesday morning.

Mounties arrived at the tracks shortly after 5:20 a.m. and found the 49-year-old dead near the Young Road railway crossing.

Canadian National Railway police are assisting the investigation but RCMP Cpl. Tammy Hollingsworth said there is no evidence of foul play.

"At this point in the investigation it is not appearing to look suspicious," said Hollingsworth in a release. "This clearly is a tragic accident."'

Police have identified the victim but his name is not being released until next of kin can be notified.

Young Road and Broadway Avenue were closed for approximately four hours while the train was moved from the scene, but have since been reopened.
