UPDATE: The owner of the boast was located safe and sound, police said Sunday evening. The man told RCMP he lost his balance which caused the boat to capsize, then he swam to shore.

RCMP are appealing to the public for help in finding the owner of a capsized boat discovered Friday night in Richmond.

The Canadian Coast Guard found the 10-foot boat, named Riviera, at Gravesend Reach in the 5400 block of Dyke Road.

The boat’s outboard motor kill switch was dislodged, which could mean a person fell off the boat, Richmond RCMP said in a release.

Personal items were found floating around the vessel, and Korean food packaging and a Korean first aid kit were found on the boat.

Police and Coast Guard members searched the area and conducted an aerial search of surrounding islands but could not find the boat’s owner.

The boat has a white hull, black bottom, teal stripes on the bow and the word "Riviera" written in red lettering. It has one outboard "Tohatsu" 9.8hp 4 stroke engine.

Anyone with information about this incident or the owner of the boat is asked to contact Richmond RCMP at 604-278-1212.
