A man wanted by police for attempting to rob a Tim Hortons appears to have escaped capture by jumping into the Burrard Inlet near Canada Place.

Vancouver police said they have not yet caught the man, who they began pursuing at around 5:45 p.m. on Saturday after he attempted to rob the Tim Hortons on the 400 block of Hornby Street in downtown Vancouver.

The man ran north toward Canada Place and the Vancouver Convention Centre, where he jumped into the Burrard Inlet to avoid capture.

The Vancouver Police Marine Unit, as well as the Coast Guard, were called in to search for the suspect, but as of Sunday afternoon he had not been found.

Police said they are reviewing surveillance video from the Tim Hortons and think they already know who the suspect is.

It’s possible that the suspect drowned, police said. If he didn’t, they expect to be able to catch him.
