Officials are investigating the sudden death of a middle-age man aboard a BC Ferry early Thursday morning.

The man was found slumped over seated on an upper vehicle deck of the ferry, which was heading from Horseshoe Bay to Nanaimo just after 7 a.m.

He wasn’t associated with a vehicle, according to police.

The ferry returned to Horseshoe Bay and first responders removed the man’s body from the vessel.

Const. Jeff Palmer said there appears to be “nothing at all suspicious” about the incident and the BC Coroners Service is now investigating the man’s cause of death.

Several trips were canceled in the aftermath including the 8:30 a.m., 10:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. Queen of Oak Bay ferry sailings to Nanaimo.

Travellers are asked to check BC Ferries’ website for updates regarding ferry service between Horseshoe Bay and Nanaimo.
