The Independent Investigations Office has been called in to investigate after a woman was shot by Vancouver police Thursday morning.

Officers were at a home in East Vancouver around 10:30 a.m. after receiving reports of a distraught woman with a knife.

During an exchange, police say the woman confronted the officers, who opened fire on the street outside the home. The woman remains in hospital.

Six IIO investigators were called to the scene and are looking into the incidents.

The IIO investigates incidents involving police in which people are seriously injured, or killed.
