A brazen afternoon shooting that took place in the parkade of the Richmond Ikea earlier this week was targeted but not gang-related, according to police.

Mounties confirmed Thursday they have interviewed several witnesses and reviewed surveillance footage in connection with the Dec. 11 shooting, and determined there was an intended target who is known to police.

There is no indication that the shooting is gang-related, however.

“To say that this incident is very concerning is an understatement,” Cpl. Sherrdean Turley said in a statement. “Given the time of day [and] location, the total disregard of public safety is appalling.”

No one was hurt in the shooting and there was no apparent property damage at the store, located in the 3300-block of Jacombs Road.

A vehicle described as a dark green domestic minivan was seen fleeing the area immediately after the shooting, but no further descriptive details have been confirmed.

Police have also yet to release any suspect descriptions.

Anyone who witnessed the shooting or who has other information on the incident is asked to call Richmond RCMP at 604-278-1212 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 if they wish to remain anonymous.
