A former high school teacher and basketball coach in Prince George, B.C., has been charged in a sexual abuse case dating back to the 1980s.

Prince George RCMP say an investigation began into Roderick Lyle Sauve, who taught at Duchess Park Secondary School (Prince George School District 57) in the 1980s, in October last year after an allegation of sexual abuse from one of his students.

The female victim was 13-years-old at the time. Sauve was 31.

RCMP say the abuse lasted from approximately 1981 to 1985 and ended when the suspect moved away from the area.

Sauve, 60, has been charged with Gross Indecency and Sexual Intercourse with a person under the age of 16 yrs old.

He was arrested in Victoria and is scheduled to appear in court on August 11.
