B.C.'s homicide team has been brought in to investigate a fatal shooting in a quiet residential neighbourhood in northwest Abbotsford.

People living in the area say they heard seven or eight gunshots in rapid succession around 9 p.m.

Police arrived to find an injured man in the yard who had been shot several times.

Paramedics were called and began to treat the man. He was rushed to hospital where he later died.

Investigators say the murdered man is 45-year-old Abbotsford resident Gurdev "Dave" Hair. He was known to police and the shooting appears to be targeted.

Hair has multiple prior convictions for theft, drug possession, breach, and assault.

Const. Ian MacDonald of Abbotsford Police said it received multiple 911 calls when the shooting began.

"We deployed patrol division officers as well as emergency response team members," he told CTV Vancouver.

Police are now looking into whether this may be connected to other violent crime in the area recently.

Investigators are canvassing the area around the 3100-block of Crown Court in the Clearbrook area.

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team is working closely with police, the APD forensics unit and BC Coroners Service to examine the evidence, according to IHIT.
