One man is dead after a stabbing in Surrey on Saturday night.

Surrey RCMP were initially called to the 10800 block of 168th Street around 11 p.m. to tend to someone who said he had been stabbed, said Integrated Homicide Investigation Team spokesperson Sgt. Jennifer Pound. However, police did not find the victim. They then received another call and went to another residence several blocks down to tend to someone who claimed he had been attacked.

At the 11000 block of 168th Street, police found evidence of an altercation, and a man who appeared to have been sprayed by bear spray and was suffering from head wounds, Pound said. A blood trail also led officers to a dead man with stab wounds.

"It appears that this may be a case of an attempted home invasion or break and enter of some kind that turned into a physical struggle," said Pound in a written statement. "Investigators are currently canvassing the area and attempting to gain more information to piece the details together."

The injured man was transported to the hospital and has since been released. The name of the deceased has not been released, pending next of kin.
