A wildfire burning out of control near the popular resort town of Harrison Hot Springs, B.C., has grown 600 per cent in a single day.

The 600 hectare Wood Lake blaze was zero per cent contained as of Tuesday morning.

The blaze was first reported Sunday morning near a popular recreational area in the forest.

High winds are stoking the flames, and blew sparks and embers ahead of the fire. Heavy smoke is reported in the area.

There are no structures or homes currently at risk, and air tankers have been dropping water on the flames steadily since Sunday evening.

A total of 135 firefighters are fighting the wildfire from the ground and air, supported by nine helicopters and fixed-wing air tankers.

Mounties have evacuated a campsite at the Wood Lake Recreation Site, about one kilometre away from the southwest end of the fire, as well as the 20 Mile Bay campsite to the north.

The fire is suspected to be human-caused.
